One of my favourite authors over at Craft & Vision is Andrew S Gibson. He’s produced some great books on black and white photography which I’ve previously recommended. So I’m more than happy to mention his latest work “Andes” which this time falls into the Craft & Vision Print & Process category.
The Print & Process books are a sort of exhibition of work in book form. However after presenting what is usually superb work, they then go on to write up the story behind the collection of photos (usually they’ve involved a trip somewhere) and finish with a photo by photo explanation on how the shot came about or why a certain framing or lens was used. In some respects this is the most valuable part of this series of books as its a sort of learn by example – Spot a photo you really like or wish you’d taken then find out the technical and creative decisions behind it. “Andes” is no exception to that rule although I did begin to wish after viewing Andrew’s monochrome shots that he’d included a least a couple in colour rather than the sepia that has been used for the majority of them.
As always for the first five days only, if you use the promotional code ANDES4 when you checkout, you can get the PDF for only $4 OR use the code ANDES20 to get 20% off when you buy 5 or more PDF books from the Craft & Vision collection. Both these codes expire at 11:59pm PST August 6th, 2011 (check your timezone here).
